"This unnerving chiller combines modern social issues and the legend of a slave’s murdered son, as Virginia Madsen’s student project turns an urban myth into terrifying reality. Tony Todd’s hook-handed ghost will linger long in your memory." Tom Folley, Radio Times (UK). "This is intelligent, challenging horror, and boasts a fantastic Philip Glass score." - Empire. "What I liked was a horror movie that was scaring me with ideas and gore, instead of simply with gore." - Roger Ebert. "high-caliber horror in its purest, most primal form." - The Hollywood Reporter
