City Cinema has a new projector!

City Cinema has replaced its aging projector with a much more efficient new laser projector. The new projector is a real advantage for us and our audiences. It has reduced operating costs (no more expensive bulb replacements, fewer service calls from off-Island, lower maintenance requirements, and much less electricity needed with less emissions as a result) while providing a long-lasting (50,000+ hours) light source and many other upgrades. The image technology is improved with better colour and contrast producing a more accurate, consistent presentation. Having an up-to-date, reliable projector under warranty frees up a lot of time and resources that were being spent to maintain our old projector while working to acquire a new one; those resources can now be spent on furthering our core mission of promoting film to the Island community. However a professional projector of this nature costs over $50,000.
So far our loyal patrons have generously supported the cause with donations and purchase of lottery tickets, but we still have some debt we would like to fully pay off. As PEI’s only non-profit, independent theatre, owned and operated by The Charlottetown Film Society, City Cinema is growing into a hub where community can gather for the study, appreciation, and celebration of film and the moving image as culturally significant art forms.
You can contribute to the fundraising campaign via a direct donation through Canada Helps; you will receive an instant charitable tax receipt.
