The Charlottetown Film Society is a non-profit Canadian Charity established in 2012 to support the film community in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
Since 2015 we have been the organizers of The Charlottetown Film Festival, and since 2019 we are the proud owners of City Cinema in Downtown Charlottetown.
The Charlottetown Film Society endeavours to be an exceptional, sustainable independent cinema which inspires the study, appreciation and celebration of film while supporting the growth of the PEI film community through an enriched program of significant and diverse films.

Louise Lalonde

Charlotte Engel
Charlotte Engel is a producer and a former broadcaster with over 30 years of experience in film and television. She recently directed an episode of CBC’s “Land and Sea” about square dancing.
While at CBC, she oversaw CBC’s cutting edge documentary strands Firsthand and CBC Docs POV. She specialized in bringing unique voices and unforgettable stories to CBC. Many of these documentaries won multiple awards ( “Indictment: The Crimes of Shelley Chartier”, “Nipawistamasowin: We Will Stand Up” and “The Skin We’re In”).
As a producer of documentaries for Rock Yenta Productions, she brought docs to CBC, TVO and the Documentary Channel. She won a CSA for “My Millennial Life” and a Golden Sheaf award for “Mugshot”.
Engel has sat on the boards of Hot Docs, DOC Ontario and imagineNATIVE. She is currently on the board of the Charlottetown Film Festival and is on the Yorkton Film Festival programming committee.

Dave Goodwin
Dave Goodwin moved to PEI from Toronto in August of 2021 and has been a member of the Charlottetown Film Society ever since. When not watching independent films he enjoys spending time with his Girlfriend and 2 cats, Tokyo and London, trying new restaurants around the Island and traveling. His favourite films at City Cinema have been Blackberry, Godzilla Minus 1 and I Love Movies!

Jenna MacMillan
Jenna MacMillan is an award-winning filmmaker and owner of Club Red Productions, the leading independent film and television company on Prince Edward Island. Previously, she was the Director of Production and Development for Northwood Entertainment (ANNE WITH AN E THE GRIZZLIES). Jenna recently produced the PEI feature thriller, A SMALL FORTUNE (levelFILM) which has been sold around the world and her latest feature film, WHO’S YER FATHER? released theatrically in Canada in 2023, continues to screen across the country and is available on Paramount + in Canada. Who’s Yer Father? was the second most successful Canadian comedy feature of 2023. Jenna received Telefilm’s 2023 Talent To Watch Funding for her feature directorial debut, THE SNAKE – the only narrative project to be selected in Atlantic Canada. It’s set to go to camera in fall, 2024. Jenna is a graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University’s Film Production program and was the recipient of the DGC-Ontario & WIFT-T Directing mentorship award, DGC Atlantic’s Making Waves award for trailblazing community efforts and WIFT AT’s Filmmaker of the Year.

Taya Nabuurs
Taya is an Associate Lawyer at Stewart McKelvey with a passion for art and community. With a background in non-profit advocacy and government relations, Taya welcomes any opportunity to use her community connections and legal expertise to help non-profits thrive. Born and raised in Stratford, Taya now calls downtown Charlottetown home. She can often be found checking out the latest films at City Cinema with her fiancé, Vinod, or snuggling up at home with her two cats, Nimbu and Pigeon.

Meaghan Brander
Meaghan Brander is a cultural programmer and media executive with over 15 years of experience in the Canadian entertainment industry. She currently works in film sector development with Innovation PEI, where she leads the province's Film Office activities and promotes the Island as a destination for film and television production. Meaghan's extensive background includes positions at the Toronto International Film Festival and Cineplex Entertainment, where she specialized in theatrical distribution, marketing, and audience development. She has collaborated with arts organizations, film festivals, and media companies worldwide, helping to connect communities across Canada with outstanding programming and entertainment.

Carol Horne
Carol Horne has been managing talented marketing teams over the past 20 years, spending a couple of decades in tourism marketing in PEI and nationally, and ending her paid career in 2018 as Chief Marketing Officer at Confederation Centre of the Arts. Now she works on a few marketing, communications and tourism projects and plays basement mini-hockey with her grandson. She has been on the boards of the Tourism Industry Association of PEI, Meetings & Conventions PEI, the Charlottetown Arts Advisory Board and the Island Nature Trust. She is returning to the Film Society Board after a three-year absence and is excited about the next phase for City Cinema and The Charlottetown Film Festival.

Our Bylaws
The purpose and objects of the Society shall be to offer film and live performance in a community-operated setting, and in particular: To act as a vital contributor to Prince Edward Island’s film culture by offering regular presentations of significant and diverse cinematic works; To provide opportunities in our community for the study, appreciation and celebration of film and the moving image as culturally significant art forms; To acquire by way of grant, gift, purchase, bequest, devise, or otherwise, real and personal property and to use and apply such property to the realization of the objects of the Society.
